This program is ideally for those who wish to pursue a career in Sales and Marketing.  We offer the opportunity to gain knowledge in the route to market for goods into the *FMCG Industry. PRL are hiring a Sales Merchandiser to create and develop relationships in stores with the aim of growing sales through a mix of direct selling, business development, data collection & analysis and merchandising. The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and effectively as part of a team. They must be willing to support colleagues, as well as learn from them, to achieve a common goal.

Role & responsibilities will include: 

  • Indirect selling & merchandising in the convenience channel, (Supervalu, Centra, Spar, Mace, Londis)
  • Generating extra space for the brand and client’s products by increasing core range distribution
  • Presenting & detailing the benefits to retailers of stocking the client’s products.
  • Merchandising all client SKU’s and replenishing stock on shelf, and building display units and feature displays
  • Completion of full journey plan on a weekly basis.
  • Placing FSU’s and Point of Sale to drive incremental sales.
  • Meeting set targets for POS placement
  • Reporting all in-store activity via handheld.
  • The role requires close working with the Clients Field Sales team, as well as other key support functions such as Customer Marketing, Brand & Category Development teams

Essential qualifications / knowledge / experience

  • Sales & merchandising experience in the FMCG sector.
  • Excellent verbal communication and personal organizational skills
  • Ability to overcome objections and strong business acumen.
  • Proven record in hitting and exceeding both Sales & Merchandising KPI’s.
  • Experience in increasing core range distribution.
  • Understands Margin calculations.
  • Understands the importance of Merchandising, Category planning and planograms.
  • Strong technological acumen.
  • Full clean driving license.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in this sector.


  • €27,570.60 annual base salary, increased to €29,248 upon passing probation (6 months)

The purpose of this role is to support the PRL Sales team on delivering the best-in-market experience through our outsourced salesforce, in-field marketing, merchandising, technical services and tactical support on behalf of our many Brand Partners in the FMCG industry in all retails channels.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Business / Marketing Graduate who is looking to take a first step in their professional career or an experienced administrator seeking a fresh challenge or change of pace.

The role will have a key focus in the areas of admin, payroll and reporting:


  • Administrating field operations.
  • To act as liaison between field operatives/office/client.
  • Brief selected personnel
  • Control information and equipment to and from the field.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork has been received from the field & administered correctly.
  • Produce reports from field information according to client requirements.

Job Purpose:
To develop and manage a team of Sales Merchandisers (SM’s) based in the West and Midlands of Ireland who will execute the brand plans for all accountable Brands at point of purchase across the Impulse and Grocery sectors.

Maintain a competitive edge over the competitors by ensuring the team knowledgeably, efficiently and effectively present their case for support of our brands over our competitors.

The ideal location for this role is the West or Midlands.


  • The effective direction, control, training and motivation of the team in order to achieve the agreed Client Sales Strategy across all specified trade channels, and across all categories
  • Develop your territory sales strategy to deliver the GSV / NSV Plan
  • Manage team performance against KPI’s that will focus on Volume Sales, Distribution, Space, Planograms, Equipment, and Promotions, (which will deliver the planned GSV/NSV plan) and will be strategically and specifically targeted down both the Drink Now and Drink Later channels
  • Ensure that each Sales Merchandiser has a crystal clear vision of each of the KPI’s by category for each of his/her individual stores
  • Ensure that the Sales Merchandiser is fully equipped and motivated to constantly strive to transform the store to world class standards across every category based on and measured against these KPI’s
  • Ensure that these KPI’s are monitored and fed back on a periodic basis.
  • Structure the service level to meet both Sales, Distribution and Costs targets
  • Develop efficient journey plans and review on an ongoing basis to ensure efficient, effective and comprehensive coverage of the territory
  • Engage with field reporting and analyse data and use to control motivate and target areas to achieve Volume, Space, Distribution and Call coverage targets.
  • Plan and conduct group-training programs for Sales Merchandisers, on the basis of identified needs to maximize sales performance
  • Monitor monetary incentives to achieve sales targets and motivate the team.
  • Ensure the appropriate levels of field audits are carried out against reported performance by the team, and areas of opportunity are fed back on a period basis
  • Carry out Period Meeting with the team and present on upcoming activity, current performance, competitive activity, trade trends, etc
  • Develop and maintain consistent behaviours and performance within your team through ongoing field training, communication, motivation and periodic (Half yearly) assessment
  • Recruitment, induction and if necessary termination of Sales Merchandisers as required
  • Form part of the overall strategy group in relation to Brand Positioning, Offering and Price
  • Engage and manage the client relationship both at a direct and overall level

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven track record in team management and KPI achievement
  • Coaching experience an advantage
  • Strong skill set in the areas of communication and people management
  • Strong knowledge of the entire FMCG industry across both Impulse and Grocery sectors.
  • Selling and merchandising in FMCG environment
  • Experience of Laptop / Tablet usage with a proficiency in Excel and powerpoint
  • Use of Tablets or Handhelds from both front and back end applications and usage
  • Provides specific feedback in a timely way, with assertion as appropriate
